Stoddart and nicely illustrated throughout by William Ralston and A. S. Boyd.Outram was born near Coatbridge but grew up in Leith, near Edinburgh. He was a humorous poet, Scottish advocate and once editor of The Heraldin Glasgow, which grew considerably during his leadership and eventually was owned by George Outram & Co., becoming the first daily newspaper in 1858.His poems were originally written to be sang at festivals and gatherings and therefore are very festive and joyful.With previous owner bookplate to the front pastedown, Mrs. James Dick.
