Front inner end paper joint split but sound, rear inner board re hung with similar antique end papers. Slt soiling to first few leaves, some foxing, mainly to plates. The second issue of both volumes. but with stab marks to some leaves in volume one, suggesting these are unsold sheets from the earlier parts publication, making it an early one and with the half titles present. Lacks publisher's catalogue though. Further notes : Vol 1:viii,320pp. mixed issue points as follows:- 2nd issue- The plate faces p. 72 and not p. 73.the comma has been restored to the caption and this plate is not given a page number on the list of illustrations.It appeared on p. 80 in the first issue. On p. 40, no word 'room is present on this page and point over the dropped comma there cannot be checked. 2nd issue of the plate 'Mr Furnival's welcome home' which is correctly spelled. 1st issue of plate at p.87 which has no page listing on the prelim list. Hard Covers. Zustand: Very Good Plus. First Edition Thus. 1867-1870. Volumes I-VI of Saint Pauls 'A Monthly Magazine' which Trollope edited from it's first publication in 1867. The magazine ran up to 1874. Trollope contributed a few essays and parts of some books (Phineas Finn, Ralph the Heir, An Editor's Notes) were first or also published in Saint Pauls. According to Sadleir, nothing of Trollope appeared in Saint Pauls after an essay on Charles Dickens in July 1870. Trollope's period of editorship finished with the September 1870 edition. Margaret Oliphant's 'The Three Brothers' appeared from June 1869 to September 1870 (monthly). The six volumes are unifomly bound in half brown leather over marbled boards. Gilt titles and bands to spines. Marbled edges and endpapers. The cases of the books are in very good condition. A previous owner has stuck a small name label to each front pastedown.
