Bound together from single issues by 20th century owner in 1/2 black morocco and marbled paper boards with titles brightly in gilt to spine. Ten issues only (of 12) lacking January and November 1881. With the ten large, folding hand-colored fashion plates for the issues present (one per issue) : March plate mis-folded with light browning/toning where it protruded beyond the text block; July plate with a small old tape mend at lower edge. Otherwise the plates are bright and attractive. Contents appear to include the expected illustrated matter for the issues present (b&w fashion engravings, costume/craft pages, engravings, and sheet music). Eccentrically bound: the prior owner excluded most advertising leaves (apparently bound separately) , so this volume is largely the editorial/illustrated content rather than complete issue wrappers/ads. Attractive custom binding and a very presentable working/collector copy with the key visual componentall ten color folding fashion plates called for (for the issues present). Present: FebOct, Dec 1881 (10 issues). Lacking: Jan, Nov 1881. Plates: 10/10 present for issues included (note March mis-fold; July tape mend) VG. . Large 8vo, 10.5x8.1.25' India Paper, Smyth-sewn and bound in brown GENUINE COWHIDE leather, gilt edges, gilt-tooled turn-ins, place ribbon, thumb indexed, dual column with center-column references and footer notes. Large print with generous spacing and wide margins for notes. Owner's name imprinted to front cover, pristine otherwise, dedication blank, entirely clean and sharp with no markings and crisp, unused pages. A very uncommon setting.
