It adopts a maritime cultural landscape perspective, an approach that has seen very limited previous application to the East African coast, despite the central role played by the sea in the development of its port settlements and exploitation of its resources. Six themes are covered, namely the identification of coastal settlement sites and establishment of their chronology; recognition of princAal phases in settlement development; exploitation of maritime resources and economy; identification of settlement location in relationship to the physical environment of the coast; establishment of the hierarchical nature of coastal settlement; and recognition of the principal harbour and port types.

Volume I includes Foreword; Summary, Introduction, Assessment of Robotic Technology; Robotic Work Station; Work Cell; Work Cell Operating Scenario; and Conclusions. Also includes Appendix A.: Work Station/Cell Plan; and Social and Psychological Aspects of Production Robots at General Dynamics--Fort Worth. Also includes 29 black and white figures in the text. This final report details the accomplishments of Task A on meeting the objectives of the program. Results of the work cell along with an outline of limitations and constraints are also included in the report. The Robotics Application Guide was published as Volume II of this report. The Guide addressed Robot Configuration (manipulator hardware, controllers, and dynamic properties), Sensors, Tooling, Work Station Integration, and Safety Considerations. It provided References, Glossary of Terms, and an Index. The Guide provides an introduction to the basic concepts and techniques pertaining to the use of robotics technology for manufacturing and industrial application. The concepts of hierarchical control by computer-sensor systems is stressed. The hierarchical pattern of control is utilized to develop the work center concept from the robot, to the work station, the work cell, and the work center. Task A of the ICAM program,a "Robotics System for Aerospace Batch Manufacturing" was an 18 month effort with the major objective of early establishing of robot capability through immediate application using today's technology. Specified objectives to attain this were an assessment of robotic technology and publication of a Robotics Application Guide, the forming of a robotic work station for drilling and routing aircraft sheet metal panels on the factory floor, and the expansion of the work station into a fabrication cell for drilling and routing numerous aircraft sheet metal panels into a batch manufacturing environment. Both the work station and fabrication cell were to be demonstrated to the Air Force and Industry. The work station was demonstrated on 10 October 1979 and the fabrication cell demonstrated on 3 December 1979. This final report details the accomplishments of Task A on meeting the objectives of the program. Results of the work cell and on with an outline of limitations and constraints are also included in the report. The Robotics Application Guide was published as Volume II of this report.

First edition of Edward Daniel Clarke's magnum opus "Travels in Various Countries of Europe, Asia and Africa" the author's personal account of a fascinating journey throughout three continents. Following a tour of Scandinavia in 1799, Edward Daniel Clarke (1769-1822) travelled through Russia and the Crimea before proceeding to Constantinople, Rhodes, and afterwards Egypt and Palestine. Greece was the country next visited. While touring this country, Clarke, as a mineralogist and antiquary, collected marbles, coins and vases and purchased a large ancient statue at Eleusis. From Athens he proceeded by land to Constantinople, and after a short stay in that city directed his course homewards through Rumelia, Austria, Germany and France. Each of the six volumes is lavishly illustrated throughout with numerous in-text vignettes and woodcuts, as well as full-page copper plates (many folded), depicting views, monuments, natives in traditional costume, ceremonies and processions, antiquities, etc. Includes several folded maps and charts. All the 185 copper plates and 157 vignettes and cuts are accounted for. Plates engraved by Joseph Skelton, R. Pollard, Laetitia and Elizabeth Byrne, F. R. Hay, J. Fittler, and R. Cooper after illustrations by E. D. Clarke, Angelica Clarke, Guarenghi, Martin, Dreier, W. Havell, Camporesi, J. B. Lusieri, Morritt, W. Harraden, Grelot, Fauvel, G. Wilkins, Henry Wrighte, and Preaux. Most of the delightful vignettes were engraved by Elizabeth and Laetitia Byrne. The maps and plans were engraved by S. I. Neele, and H. Mutlow.
