A scarce catalogue of work by the British artist Ivon Hitchens (1893-1979), a member of the 'London Group', who he exhibited with during the 1930s. Illustrated with a selection of his oil paintings in eighteen glossy colour plates, this work lists his past exhibitions, as well as a biographical timeline, selected bibliography, and a list of museums and public collections which include his pieces. Among the pieces in this catalogue are 'Holbrook Pools' (1938), 'Interior and Garden' (c1944), 'Autumn Brushwood' (c1948), 'Upturned Boat' (1959), and 'A White House Surrounded by Trees (1975). Paperback. Zustand: Near fine in wraps. First Edition. 25 x 28cm very good paperback with transparent cover. Has a foreword by Simon Hucker followed by colour reproductions, one a fold-out. Ivon Hitchens was an English painter who started exhibiting during the 1920s. He became part of the 'London Group' of artists and exhibited with them during the 1930s. His house was bombed in 1940 during World War II. Hitchens and his family abandoned London for the Sussex countryside, where he acquired a small area of woodland on Lavington Common (near Petworth), and lived there in a caravan, which he gradually augmented with a series of buildings. It was here that the artist further developed his fascination with woodland as subject matter.…
