L'auteur impute au 'Contrat social' et à la conception rousseauiste de la loi comme expression de la volonté générale les causes profondes des révolutions qui ont agité la France, Genève et l'Amérique au XVIIIe siècle. Ingénieur des Ponts et Chaussées et économiste, Achille-Nicolas Isnard (1748-1803) est considéré comme l'un des précurseurs de l'économie mathématique. Il est notamment l'auteur d'un traité pionnier en la matière: 'Traité des richesses' (1781), auquel il renvoie à la page 23 de cette brochure.
