This book was published shortly after America joined the Allied forces to fight Hitler's march across Europe. This is the d'Aulaire's tribute to the patriotic effort. The artists depict scenes of American history and everyday life as well as soldiers marching into battle and keeping the nation safe. Two verses of the anthem accompany the illustrations. There are both black and white and color lithographs. Illustrated boards, and musical score printed on endpapers. Corners worn. Near-fine.
