Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Aus dem Inhalt: Der Erste Weltkrieg in Deutschland und Österreich in frauen- und geschlechtergeschichtlicher Perspektive / Visual Representations of Women's Contribution to the First World War in France and Britain / Remembering the Great War in Portugal and Gender Perspectives / Commemoration Projects and Historiography in Hungary / Geschlechterspezifische Erinnerungsdiskurse in Italien / Gedenken an den Kriegswiderstand in Großbritannien / Im Gespräch mit Margaret R. Higonnet / Geschlechterbilder und -praktiken in der kaiserlichen Marine am Beispiel von Martin Niemöller. This issue of 'L'Homme. Z. F. G.' addresses a critical retro-perspective on national memory and academic cultures of the First World War. It specially focuses on the question of how far female and gender historical approaches played a role in the emerging boom in 2012 concerning the scientific and, media-public activities. The conclusions of the surveys regarding Germany/Austria, France/UK, Italy, Portugal and Hungary are various. However, in all examples it becomes clear that - if considered at all - especially female historical subjects were integrated or the analytical potential of the category gender was merely taken into consideration in order to decentralise and reshape historiographical concepts or narratives of the First Wold War.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Women Activists between War and Peace employs a comparative approach in exploring women's political and social activism across the European continent in the years that followed the First World War. It brings together leading scholars in the field to discuss the contribution of women's movements in, and individual female activists from, Austria, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Russia and the United States. The book contains an introduction that helpfully outlines key concepts and broader, European-wide issues and concerns, such as peace, democracy and the role of the national and international in constructing the new, post-war political order. It then proceeds to examine the nature of women's activism through the prism of five pivotal topics: \* Suffrage and nationalism\* Pacifism and internationalism \* Revolution and socialism \* Journalism and print media \* War and the body A timeline and illustrations are also included in the book, along with a useful guide to further reading. This is a vitally important text for all students of women's history, twentieth-century Europe and the legacy of the First World War.…
