Printed document completed by hand, 1 Sheet, 45x 29cm, on light blue onionskin paper, with Canada Company crest on upper left corner, side signatures & annotations, folded in half & thirds, hand-written docket, light wear & browning along creases, some spotting, very good to fine. (On).

Partially printed on vellum with manuscript insertions, noting an apprenticeship awarded to William Henry Carley (son of Anne Carley, of Hopton, Suffolk for a period of seven years to Joseph Brook and son; William Joseph Brook in the Art of a builder joinercabinet maker and upholsterer. Dated March 30th 1844 and signed at the foot by young William Henry, his mother Anne and by Joseph Brooke and William Joseph Brooke, with red wax seals adjacent, witnessed by Ellen Sarah Carley. It notes an increasing salary scale from two shillings per week in the third year to six shillings per week in the seventh year (1851). One pound tax stamp applied and cancelled by Suffolk hand stamp. Soiled vellum with one horizontal fold and three vertical folds. G+ . ** Family history records show that: "William Henry Carley (Pattern Maker - 1851 census) was born in 1830 in Yarmouth, Norfolk, his father, Robert, was 42 and his mother, Anne, was 36. He married Susan Nunn in 1852 in Thetford, Norfolk. They had six children in 15 years. He died in October 1916 in Stowmarket, Suffolk, having lived a long life of 86 years.

Indenture between John Salwey, The Moor, Salop, and his wife Elizabeth of the first part; Richard Salwey, Fearn Hall, Salop (eldest son of John Salwey) of the second part; Job Walker Baugh, Fearn Hall and Isabella his daughter of the third part; John Bayley, Leominster, hereford, Gentleman and William Radcliffe of Oxford Street, Saint Mary le Bone, Middlesex, Confectionerof the fourth part; and the Reverend Doctor Folliott Herbert Walker Cornewall, Dean of Canterbury and Job Walker Baugh the younger, Corfton, Diddlebury, Salop, Clerk of the fifth part.

1729 vellum Indenture. 37cm x 67cm. 2 horizontal folds and3 vertical folds. Clear English hand writing. An agreement for Samuel Ralling of Clare, Suffolk (occupation: Tanner) to rent/lease a yard from William Wiseman of Stradishall, Suffolk. Vellum with wax Seal27" x 15".

Indenture with three pieces of related ephemera. The Indenture, 410mm x 342mm ( 16 1/8 inches x 13 1/8 inches ) is printed and written in ink in a clear cursive hand. The Indenture states the Thomas Hornby will be apprenticed to William Whiteway, Sailmaker of Liverpool, for seven years, Whiteway acknowledges receipt of the ' . apprentice fee ' of two shiilings and sixpence from Thomas Hornby. There are many rules, regulation and codicils in the document, and finally on the verso there is a signed declaration, dated March 26, 1852, that Hornby - ' the within named apprentice ' has ' . duly and faithfully served out his time of seven years . ' . The declaration is signed ' William Whiteway and Co. ' The Indenture also notes the seven annual payments made to William Whiteway and Co; in respect of his apprenticeship. The signatures of Thomas and James Hornby, Philip Whiteway and William Whiteway, are inserted at the end of the document. The red seals on the recto of the indenture are damaged, the official embossed, ink and embossed payment stamps are clear. Complimentary to the Indenture is a signed letter / testimonial from William Whiteway, dated June 12, 1852, in which he states that ' Thomas Hornby served out his regular apprenticeship with us, in a manner very satisfactory, and we consider him both worthy and capable of being employed on board any vessel, . . ' Two other pieces offered here enlighten us as to the father of James Hornby , Thomas Hornby. One is the Certificate of Discharge / Certificate of Character dated 5 July, 1853. Hornby Senior , was born In Liverpool in 1821, was a Sailmaker on the ' Gipsey Bride ' which was registered at Liverpool, the Certificate of Character gives the ' Character for Ability in Whatever capacity ' and ' Character for Conduct ' of Thomas Hornby as ' Very Good ', both, conjoined, Certificates are signed by ' A. Montgomery ' the Master of the ' Gipsey Bride '. The ink signature of Hornby is on the verso of the Certificate. The other document included here is an ' Account of Wages ' for Thomas Hornby during his engagement on the Gipsey Bride, he was paid £6/0/0p. per month for the period 2 April, 1855 - 1 July, 1855. The Account also notes Deduction for ' Tobacco - 5s ' and ' 1 / 6 ' Discharge Fee, and is signed at the lower end by A. Montgomery, Master of the Gipsey Bride. Interestingly the ' Description of Voyage or Employment ' boxes on both Certificates have been entered with ' Foreign '. An interesting collection of family related Liverpool maritime ephemera.

A mortgage for £1,200, for 2 plots of land: Ambleside, Queens Road, Sudbury; and York Road, Sudbury. Folded bi-folio. 15.75" x 10.75". With one vertical fold and three horizontal folds. "Arthur Grimwood (1851-1918), Builder and Architect.".

Dated 20th November 1822, signed by Rawstone and Stott, wax seals & paper revenue stamp; some mellowing to vellum, light browning & original fold lines. 28 x 22cm. In 1820 Thomas Stott of Bromley received payment of £23 2s 0d for the inoculation of sixty-six children of the parish at seven shillings each. Fitzroy Township was first settled around 1824. A "Jno. McDermott" isnoted in the Belden Atlas of 1879 as having 200 acres east of the Villageof Fitzroy Harbor. On the verso of the document is a hand-written codicildated 1852: "County of Carleton Registry Office. I do hereby certify thata Memorial of the written deed of bargain and sale attested before me byJohn McDermott of the Township of Litchfield formerly of Fitzroy,Yeoman, was duly recorded in this office .".

[INDENTURE] (illustrator). . Thompson's Mortgage to Adam Barnes. England: October 18, 1688. This manuscript document is an indenture for a mortgage from October 18, 1688 between H. Thompson and Adam Barnes. The manuscript is two sided on vellum. The manuscript is mounted with a floating mount and framed and glazed along with an envelope above it and the reverse side of the frame with a window so that the back side can be viewed. Envelope is printed with "On His Majesty's Service" and "War-Office." as well as being hand addressed to "Lieutenant General Jefferson[?]" The vellum document cut at the top in the typical wave pattern, first letter of the text is embellished. It is signed by Thompson at the foot where the bottom margin has been folded up about one-inch and sealed with a vellum tie. The reverse with numerous witness signatures as well as other manuscript notation. Document size is approximately 21 x 11 1/4 inches. Folded up envelope is approximately 6 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches. Opening on the reverse is 9 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. The total size of frame is 29 1/2 x 26 inches. With usual fold lines and some very minor smudging. Overall very attractive in a beautiful frame. Sold with: Counterpart Indenture of feoffment dated 20 January 45 Elizabeth I (1603) between (1) John Ewerdine of Skillington, Lincs, yeoman, and (2) John Pillfoote of Skillington yeoman witnesseth that (1), in consideration of an oxgang of land meadow and pasture in the fields of Skillington, taken from the eight oxgangs of land meadow and pasture being the inheritance of (2) now in the occupation of (2), has granted bargained and sold to (2) all that plot or parcel of enclosed ground as now divided from a certain plot lying on the south side thereof being the free land of (1) the enclosed ground of Richard Williams of Denton Lincs Gent and on other enclosed ground of the said (1) on the north side thereof and on a plot of enclosed ground belonging to George Owsell of Skillington husbandman lying on the east side thereof and the Queen's highway upon Saltby Heath lying on the west which plot of enclosed ground is commonly called Lindfeild Close lying within the fields of Kyrck Stoke, Lincolnshire, which (1) bought of Thomas Harrington of South Witham Lincs Esq. To have and to hold to (2) to the use of (2) with usual covenants. Endorsed with livery of seisin witnessed by Richard Edwards, John Baker, George Owsell, Charles Sewell.
