Printed by Marston Printing Co, London. 27, (1)pp English text. Wraps fair with loss to corners and along spine, repaired and reinforced with archival tape. Interiors good, creased to corner tips. The League Against Imperialism was formed in Brussels in 1927 in the presence of key international figures including Nehru, with expressions of support from Einstein, Victor Margueritte and Gandhi. It aimed to "deter imperialist governments from oppressing weak nations". However, by 1931 many of its members, including Nehru, had been expelled, and after its Berlin HQ was raided later that year, it moved to London via Paris. Its British section actively exploited the Labour Party's ambivalent position on anti-imperialism. Difficulties aligning various National movements with different ideas about Socialism, and suspicions over LAI's own Communist affiliation led it to lose support. It declared an end to its activities early in 1937, making this one of its last publications. This calls for the abolition of the Mandates, complete independence for all Arab peoples under a Federation of Arab States if desired, a free Palestine with unity of and political and trade union rights for Arab and Jewish workers and peasants, liberation of political prisoners, repeal of General Wauchope's Emergency Decrees, and withdrawal of all British troops and officials from the Arab countries. Uncommon pamphlet, calling for the immediate independence of all British colonies, by the League Against Imperialism, an international organization founded in 1927 with support from the COMINTERN. Though the League dissolved by 1936, it was an important incubator for such national independence movements as the League for Indian Independence and the Burma Reform League. Some, if not all, articles here are taken from other publications or sources. A collection of essays reflecting on various aspects of the struggle of African countries for self rule against colonialism, as well as struggles against racism and other issues. All published by the Africa Research Group, as the African Activist Archive website notes, was " a radical research /action collective concerned with exposing and fighting American imperialist penetration of Africa. ARG hoped to promote a more informed concern with and protest against the role the U.S. played in the domination of Africa and to contribute to the sharpening and extending an anti-imperialist and anti-racist consciousness within the movement for social change." The group was active from 1968 to 1973. These publications are held in a manila envelope with a black and white photo and "Sharpeville" on it. Topics include Nelson Mandela's speech at his trial; Tovio's speech reflecting on the impact of South Africa on Namibia; a look at armed struggle in Africa, etc. All publications in VERY GOOD or better condition. A few with minor rusting to the staples, otherwise very little wear. Wrinkling, toning, soiling and tearing to the envelope, making it rather worn in appearance.…

[5], ii-iii, [2], 2-227, [1] pp. Brown pebbled publisher's cloth with black rules to the boards and spine, a gold decoration on the front board, spine lettered in gold. Black coated endpapers and pastedowns. Illustrated with a frontispiece and with five plates bound at the end of the volume. The majority of the images on the plates show spearheads and other palaeolithic implements from Middlesex, one plate shows images from a palaeolithic cave in Europe, the other images are that of weapons from hunter-gatherer tribes in New Guinea, Australia, with some tools used by Inuit peoples. A large portion of the book is devoted to scholarly archaeology and geological studies of Great Britain, with the use of evidence excavated from burial mounds and other historic sites, and with the use of written sources (Caesar, Tacitus, etc.). At the end of the volume, the author considers several different written sources on hunter-gatherer tribes from Australia, the Arctic region, southern Africa, New Guinea, New Zealand, and other places. Much of this written evidence is taken from Europeans during the early days of exploration and colonization, and reflects the historical prejudices within. The author himself often reflects these prejudices in the language that he uses. The author discusses various historical customs of these different peoples, and frequently compares them to the customs of palaeolithic Britons. Very rare in both commerce and institutions with no copies on OCLC. The clue to the origins of this group is in the mimeographed Black Power fists on the masthead. The Front seems to have been made up of revolutionary Afro-American cadres located a few blocks away from Tompkins Square Park. They rail against the profits made by Big Business from drugs in extensis, the destruction of community life and the cityscape and their divisive affects. The then Governor Rockefeller and Mayor Lindsay's attempts to swap custodial sentences for drug rehab and methadone programmes are rejected as 'phoney' and the answer to drugs is armed revolution. Striking pop art-influenced suite of anti-imperialist propaganda posters published in Milan by the Comitato Vietnam - self-described in their literature as the "sezione italiana del tribunale Russell". The work of a collective comprised of six prominent Italian artists, the images carry the theme 'Rebellion is right, rebellion is possible' into various theatres of anti-imperialist struggle. Baratella (b. 1935), Mariani (b. 1936), and Spadari (1938-97) were long-term collaborators and members of the Nuova Figurazione art movement. Amadori (1945- 2015) won the Joan Miró prize in 1972. Spadari's contribution draws on the "solarised" image of Castro in the Cuban Revolution from his work "26 de julio", while in an anti-Vietnam War themed poster similarly treated repeated images of a Vietnamese women are overlain by a Lichtensteinian US fighter jet wheeling away from an explosion from which emerges a Coca-Cola bottle cap with the slogan 'Nixon boia' - Nixon executioner, also the title of a song by popular singer-story teller Franco Trincale - and the partially obscured text '[Co]ca-Cola mer[da]'. Nixon also features on a poster featuring his cartoonish portrait wearing a star-spangled neck-tie while being choked out by several nooses, above him a ferociously snarling Black Panther head; while "Africa Rossa/Africa Nera" centres on a photographic image of the clenched first Black Power salute. Baratella based his poster around his painting "Benito Mussolini, Storia del fascismo", where "Il Duce's" face morphs into a skull, here with the lower part is superimposed with six small portraits of current political leaders including de Gaulle, Pompidou, Khrushchev and LBJ. The last in the group dramatises the Arab-Israeli conflict with a repeated image of a woman PFLP fighter - ?Leila Khaled - in keffiyeh and camo fatigues carrying a AK-47, above her a map of Jerusalem. No other set of these traced, a couple of examples of individual posters noted institutionally; an excellent evocation of the artistic-political synergies of the period. Six large black and white photomontage posters (700 x 500 mm) printed on coated paper, each with the repeated slogan 'ribellarsi è giusto ribellarsi è possibile' in red; in the original tan slub-weave linen textured light card portfolio printed in red, title to the front panel superimposed on a red five-pointed star. The portfolio a little rubbed and soiled, pale damp spots at the spine-fold where there are a few short splits, posters show light handling, but overall very good.…
