First edition with John Minton illustrations, first printing. Publisher's original green cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the John Minton colour illustrated dustwrapper. There are a further eight full page illustrations in black and white throughout the text by John Minton. An excellent near fine copy, the binding square and firm with a little bumping to the extremities, the cloth and gilt are bright and fresh. The contents, toned to the wartime economy paper stock, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the bright, very good, rubbed and nicked dustwrapper that has small chips to the fold corners and a couple of closed tears, one to the upper spine fold and another to the edge of the front flap.
