Clean pages; no owners' marks; the red cloth spine shows some flaking of the gilt titles, and the patterned paper boards bear a few grayish handling prints; the jacket has an open tear around the spine head and top front, smaller tears at corners and heel, a few droplet spots with small ripples on the rear, noticeable fading along the spine, and handling marks along edges, but is now protected in a removable, clear sleeve. 27pp., illus. with 11 colored drawings. Perrault's verse answer to a competitor's disparagement of women (Boileau and Perrault famously crossed pens about the value of ancient/Classical literature as well).
