Full vellum binding with blind-stamped rose and motif 'Soul is Form' to the front board. With a striking frontispiece by Walter Crane which has been hand coloured by Florence Kingsford. Hand coloured colophon with rubricated initials throughout in gold, blue and red by Annie Power. Early splaying and mottling of the boards. Light spotting to the prelims. The frontis tissue guard is loosely inserted as issued. The scarce Essex House's 4 page prospectus is present which is in very Good condition with some spotting due to the paper stock used. First edition of this compilation of socialist songs, including ironic settings to the National Anthem and "Rule Britannia". It was extremely popular and went through numerous editions into the 20th century. "There was a long labour tradition of romantic art, exemplified best by the Chartist poetry and lyrics.
