However, amidst the mess of defeat, and all the hypocrisy and compromise, there is hope. True nobility and love exist, but often in surprising places. Irene Nemirovsky conceived of "Suite Francaise" as a four- or five-part novel. It was to be a symphony - her "War and Peace". Rimane però immutata l'assoluta padronanza della «forma breve» quella che secondo Poe offre «l'occasione migliore per dispiegare il massimo talento». Così come immutate sono l'acutezza di uno stile capace di sbalzare, con minimi e tuttavia esattissimi dettagli, un carattere, uno stato d'animo, un'atmosfera, e quella che Henri de Régnier aveva definito l'«implacabile compassione» di Némirovsky nonché la sua, altrettanto implacabile, ironia. Viele weitere Veröffentlichungen folgen. Als der Zweite Weltkrieg ausbricht und die Deutschen auf Paris marschieren, flieht sie mit ihrem Mann und den Töchtern in die Provinz. Am 13.
