Bella legatura officinale in tutta tela con ricche impressioni e titolo in oro (Saggio di lavori tipografici dello stabilimento militare di pene in Savona) al piatto anteriore, risguardi e tagli marmorizzati (minime spellature e leggere macchioline). Minime fioriture sparse, piccolo strappo alla tabella.Edizione, apparentemente non censita, uscita dai torchi della Tipografia del Reclusorio Militare di Savona e presentata all'Esposizione Universale di Parigi del 1878. La fortezza savonese di Priamar divenne un carcere militare nel 1849, e tale resterà sino a che nel 1901 questa funzione sarà trasferita a Gaeta. La Tipografia del Reclusorio Militare di Savona è nota per aver stampato documenti ufficiali per il Comando del Distretto Militare tra il 1878 e il 1890 circa. Nella nota preliminare si dice che dei circa 480 detenuti nel carcere, 170 erano impiegati nella tipografia (gli altri erano impiegati come tessitori, meccanici, sarti, falegnami, lattai, materassai e calzolai); che dall'esercizio della tipografia il reclusorio ricavava notevoli vantaggi economici oltreché la ?moralizzazione dei condannati?; che la tipografia era fornita di 15 macchine, 20 torchi, 8 presse, di cui una idraulica, 2 macchine tagliacarte, una macchina perforatrice e 8 torchi da legatore. L'opera contiene estratti dall'opera di Luigi Cibrario Brevi cenni storici e genealogici dei Reali di Savoia. Book.

With extra engraved full-page title, oval cartouche on both titles, 14 full-page engravings by Arnold v. Westerhout, Jacob Freij and others, after Josef Passarus, 10 near half-page engraved end-pieces (2 signed by J. Freij, 1 by M. Schedl), wood-engraved historiate and foliate capital initials in both red and black. Contemporary red morocco with richly ornate gilt floral designs on covers and spine, edges gilt; spine end and corners repaired. An attractive rococo missal with elaborate contemporary gilt floral binding. The work bears a short dedicatory preface by the publishers and reference to the Papal Bull of Pius V. The illustrations depict biblical stories and allegorical representations of the Virgin s life, the extra title is a fine interpretation of God appearing to Adam and Eve in the garden with the serpent, the engraver Westerhout has dedicated the work to Ferdinand, Prince of the Etruscans. The end-pieces generally show putti with allegorical emblems, one or two are metaphors of self-sacrifice (the pelican with her young). Binding worn, else Well preserved. Signed by Author(s).
