The author traces the development and effect of the drastic and self-sacrificing measures which were taken by the Board of the Conservators for the Wye. Uncontrolled netting in the river, within the space of eight years, had reduced the average catch by over seventy per cent, and only by prohibiting netting entirely in fresh water and by controlling it through permit in tidal waters, was the Board able to conserve and to build up its stock.…
