In den Warenkorbhardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Publication: London, Jonathan Cape, 1942 Formatting: 8vo, pp. 312. Condition Report: Very Good. The original red cloth boards are remarkably bright and clean, with the gilt tooling to the spine remaining sharp and unoxidised. The binding is tight and square, showing minimal shelf-wear beyond faint softening to the spine ends. Internally, the text block is highly presentable; the top edge retains its original reddish stain, while the leaves are crisp and generally clean, showing only mild, intermittent spotting primarily confined to the preliminary pages and page edges. The unclipped dust wrapper, retaining its "7s. 6d. net" price, displays vibrant colours to the front panel but exhibits moderate wear, including creasing, rubbing, and minor chipping at the spine ends and corners. There is visible tanning to the rear panel and evidence of historic clear tape reinforcements to the reverse side along the spine head and folds, though the jacket remains a highly attractive example now housed in a protective archival sleeve. Catalogue Note: This is a handsome Third Impression of the final instalment in the celebrated 'Oxus' series, issued during the Second World War. Written while the authors were still teenagers, the series was heavily championed by Arthur Ransome, who successfully brought their initial manuscript to his own publisher and guided their editing process. The volume is delightfully illustrated throughout with evocative line drawings by Pamela Whitlock. This particular copy holds a charming piece of wartime provenance: a neat ink inscription on the front free endpaper reading, "Received on Friday June 11th 1943 from Mummy + Daddy as a late Christmas Present". While later impressions of this title do surface on the open market, locating a bright copy that retains its original, unclipped dust wrapper in such presentable condition is increasingly uncommon. Following the beloved adventures in The Far-Distant Oxus and Escape to Persia, Oxus in Summer reunites readers with the intrepid Hunterly children for a final Exmoor holiday. When their camp at Peran-Wisa burns down, the children must rebuild, throwing themselves into the bustling summer activities of Cloud Farm. From watching sheepdog trials and helping with the haymaking to a thrilling hunt for a mysterious Persian dagger bought at a local auction, the story is packed with the spirited outdoor escapades, vivid imagination, and practical self-reliance that define a classic interwar children's holiday tale. Pamela Whitlock (illustrator).…
