Couverture rigide. Zustand: Très bon. Edition originale. AUGICOUR-POLIGNY (Henri Paul Hugon). ¶ Henri Paul Hugon d'Augicour-Poligny (1792-1876), noble count from Franche-Comté writing under pseudonym, published "Le Prêtre marié" in 1863 with J. Techener, in a post-revolutionary climate marked by debates on ecclesiastical celibacy and secularization. This Second Empire period under Napoleon III revived interest in French Revolution tumults (1789-1799), when refractory priests confronted the Civil Constitution of the Clergy imposing marriage or submission to the Republic. The work, a provocative historical novel, belongs to the vogue for counter-revolutionary narratives, emphasizing tensions between Catholic faith and secular ideals, with a foreword by Charles Asselineau and preface by Charles Nodier. The work recounts a true Revolutionary episode: the drama of a priest forced into marriage to survive, exploring moral dilemmas, religious persecutions, and republican hypocrisies. This copy on quality vellum paper with wide margins, in a sumptuous binding signed by Philippe Belz, son-in-law and successor of Jean-Edouard Niédrée. Bound in green Empire morocco with raised bands decorated with rose tools, triple gilt fillet frame on boards with gilt corner ornaments, double fillet on edges, gilt interior dentelle, gilt edges, marbled endpapers, and ribbon marker. Octavo, xliii, 209 pages.…
