Verlag: All-American Newsreel, N.p., 1945

Vintage window card for the 1945 African-American short film. Scarce. The now-obscure 30-minute jazz short "Romance on the Beat" was the first film made by All-American Newsreel, a "race film" made for black audiences featuring the "honey-voiced" vocalist Ida James, along with the only known appearance of the Milt Coles Trio. Not listed in IMDB. James gained popularity and critical acclaim in 1943 for her high-pitched, bird-like interpretation of the Phil Moore penned song, "Shoo-Shoo Baby," which she memorably performed in the 1944 William Nigh comedy musical "Trocadero," with Bob Chester and His Orchestra. It quickly became James' trademark song, and she was often billed, as on the poster found here, as "The 'Shoo-Shoo Baby' Girl." 14.25 x 25 on archival board. Very Good plus, with professional restoration and repair.
