Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. 3rd Edition. APPLIED CHEMISTRY HYDROGEN IONS THEIR DETERMINATION AND IMPORTANCE BY BRITTON 2 VOLS. 1942. As I have mentioned in other listings, I am a non-fiction type of guy and tend to accumulate the interesting and esoteric works of great minds. Now if I could only invent a way to store them all among my collections. Some recent acquisitions, regardless of how interesting they are, will have to go. Please find another of what will be a technically oriented thematic group, a lot of basic physics stuff, this one titled: Hydrogen Ions Their Determination and Importance in Pure and Industrial Chemistry, by Hubert T. S. Britton. This two-volume set of small hard cover books (5 ¾ x 8 ¾ inches, 420 & 443 pages respectively) was published by Chapman and Hall of London (the same publisher who brought out some of Dickens early works) and dated 1942. This set of books is part of a series of Monographs on Applied Chemistry, under the editorship of E. Howard Tripp. The books are bound in red cloth with embossed titles on the covers and gilt titles on the spine. This is a scarce set of books; only one other copy found online albeit an earlier edition and priced at hundreds of dollars. These won t cost you as much in the main because they are ex-library and bear all the usual marks of a competent librarian and regrettably some unfortunately bold Discard stamps on the endpapers. They also both have the bookplate of the college library from whence they once came (Wells College). There are a lot of diagrams and tables throughout the two volumes. Condition: These two books are in very good condition. As mentioned, they have all the usual markings of a college library, including card pockets (but no cards) on the rear endpapers and the bold Discard stamps on the endpapers. The hard covers are very slightly worn with some rubbing to the corners and spine tips (please see the photos) and perhaps a little sunning to the spines. Inside, the library markings are the only ones I found, and I am pleased to say that otherwise, the pages are clean and bright throughout both volumes and free of any foxing or age-toning. All the hinges are intact, and the bindings are tight and sound.
