No date of publication listed; however, it appears to be from the early 1920s. 219 pages. Good condition. Light wear to edges and corners. Spine has faded. Foxing to fore-edge. Binding is a little cocked, but still sturdy and whole. Writing in pencil on front free endpaper and rear pastedown; pages are otherwise free from pen or pencil markings. Dust jacket is brown, with black lettering on the spine and black and red lettering and a black-and-white illustration on the front cover; jacket is protected by a clear plastic Brodart jacket. Good condition. Jacket has toned. Spine is sunned. Chipping to corners and head and foot of spine; some wear and tear, and creasing, to other edges. Title page illustrated and decorated in signature Art Nouveau style. / Laurence Housman (1865Ð1959) was an English playwright, writer and illustrator whose career stretched from the 1890s to the 1950s. He studied art in London and worked largely as an illustrator during the first years of his career, before shifting focus to writing. He was a younger brother of the poet A. E. Housman and his sister and fellow activist in the women's suffrage movement was writer/illustrator Clemence Housman. Sound. Very Good. Very slight wear. Lacks frontispiece.

This was limited to 1,000 copies of which 250 were for American market, with 100 de luxe copies, of which this is not one (see note verso t.p.). Scarce in this good a condition, 13 cm x 19.5 cm.

pp. 319, (i). Frontispiece and 19 tipped-in colour plates. Original brown cloth gilt, rear cover with a couple of faint marks at the fore-edge not affecting the interior, some foxing of the end-papers, contents clean and joints firm.

An early 13th-century French chantefable (a story told in alternating sections of verse and prose, the former sung, the latter recited). Nicks to yapp edges front and rear, rubbing to backstrip head. Orig. beige cloth spine and gray boards, paper spine label and yapp edges. Very good.
