Sponsored by member states of the newly formed Arab League, The Arab Office was established in October 1945 at the Wardman Park Hotel in Washington DC. Cecil A. Hourani, formerly lecturer in Philosophy and Political Science at the American University of Beirut, was at this time its Secretary. Here he presents the historical 19th and 20th Century context for the League's founding, before going into detail on the steps leading up to its foundation and the role played by Nuri Said, its objectives, and where it stands on Arab Nationalism. Appendices contain the texts of the Alexandria Protocol (1944) which led to the formation of the League, and the Pact itself (1945).
