Bound in original publishers woven cloth, gilt stamped title label, and lettering. At some time the volume has been rebacked, retaining the original spine. Cloth rubbed, some wear on edges. Generally binding in good firm condition. Internally, previous owners bookplate, some intermittant ight spotting. Pages and plates in good condition. A good copy. Size: Quarto.

4to [28x22cm]. ppxxv 178 + errata leaf. engraved title-page and 52 plates. some foxing and browning to the plates and a little foxing elsewhere, but generally clean. in the original green textured cloth binding, a little worn and marked and with neat repair to the upper hinge and joint. an important early work on naval tactics, originally published in France in 1697. this is the first full translation of the text into English and includes some additional material and updating of the illustrations by the translator. with a signed presentation inscription from Captain Boswall to Captain Chevalier Eyckhoth of His Majesty's Belgian corvette 'La Rein Maria Louis'. Boards rubbed/bumped on corners, small leather secition lacking for one corner. Generally a very good clean firm binding. Internally, some light persistan water staining, mainly to top margin, heavier in places, a few pages brittle on margins, a few margins repaired., Folding plates in second part worn on edges, one with loss of engarved area, small loss of text on last page of index in second part. Pages and plates in good condition. A nice copy. Size: Folio.
