Now first chronologically arranged. Volumes one, eight, and nine are illustrated with a portrait frontispiece and four portrait plates. All other volumes are illustrated with a portrait frontispiece and three portrait plates. Collated complete. The letters of Horatio Walpole, 4th Earl of Orford, better known as Horace Walpole, an English Whig politician, writer, historian and antiquarian. The youngest son of the first British Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole, his Letters, are of significant social and political interest. This collection includes prefaces from Lord Dover, Vernon Smith, Rev. John Mitford, and others. With 'Short Notes of My Life' from the author and a memoir respecting his income, as well as a collection of reminiscences written in 1788 for the amusements of Miss Mary and Miss Agnes Berry. The letters are dated from 1735 to 1797, with some letters never having been previously published. Volume nine contains some additional letters not previously published relevant to the dates of previous volumes, as well as Walpole's letters to Montagu and extracts from unpublished correspondence of the Earl and Countess of Hertford. Edited by Peter Nicolas Cunningham, a British writer who published several topographical and biographical studies. In the original half crushed morocco with cloth covered boards. Externally, smart with rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Most rubbing to the head of the spines, raised bands, and board tips.
