The RMS Mauretania launched in 1938, just prior to the start of WWII. She was requisitioned by the government and in 1940 took part in the Convoy US 3, one of the largest Australian & New Zealand troop convoys of the war. During the war, the Mauretania travelled over540,000 miles and carried more than 340,000 troops. After the war she was used as a cruise ship, and was eventually retired in 1966.
