I found this book particularly interesting because the author and her daughter cum traveling companion and trip photographer avoided the main cities of the Southern Provinces of Italy. Please find: Through… the Heel of Italy by Katharine Hooker, with photos as noted by her daughter Marian O Hooker. This medium-sized hard cover book, generally scarce in the book trade, was published by the Rae D. Henkle Co. of New York dated 1927 and the First Edition (with the same date on title and copyright pages). It is bound in textured dark blue with gilt decorations and titles on cover and spine. It measures 6 x 9 inches and has 305 pages. There are 38 full-page b&w photos, blank on the reverse and printed on a glossy paper. The Frontispiece is a tipped-in photo of the town castle in Irsina and the endpapers are decorated with a map of the provinces they visited. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are slightly dust-dulled especially the spine where the gilt titles are also a bit tarnished. The boards have been slightly bumped at the corners and spine tips. Inside the book is unmarked and the pages are clean and bright throughout without any toning or foxing. Both hinges are intact and the binding is tight and sound. The rear endpaper has been torn but still attached. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
