First cover bears a red leather label on top left with a gilt location number, 99; marble endpapers. On blank leaf with wide watermark, illustrated frontispiece with etched title inside an aedicule; 1 etched illustration of a Latin verse topped with an eclipse and surrounded by floral motif as background of the rest of the universe. 49 numbered out of text pen illustrations, burin engraved, of half-bust portraits each captioned with the name of the person and some Latin verse and bearing the monogram of the artist "H" or "Hh". The beautiful portraits depict figures of the Protestant Reform and other historical figures like Erasmus and Savonarola. Extremely scarce collection, perfectly complete in our copy, absent from auction catalogs in the last 40 years it is preserved in only 4 libraries as per Worldcat records. Magnificent copy, with fresh etchings and for the very wide margins (from 2 to 4 cm at sides; up to 7 cm for the bottom margin).
