A two-volume set in uniform full calf bindings, with the spine labels stating 'PRIOR'S POEMS' for both volumes.Ink inscription to the title page of both volumes. A delightful two-volume set of poems. Volume I is an uncommon work, containing the poems of Joseph Addison, including poems such as 'A Song for St. Cecilia's Day, at Oxford' and 'To Mr. Dryden'. Volume II contains the poems of Matthew Prior, including 'Alma' and 'Solomon'. This second volume is Volume II of a two-volume set of poems by Matthew Prior; the contents pages are found to the rear.Joseph Addison (1672-1719) was an English essayist, poet, playwright, and politician. Together with his long-standing friend Richard Steele, he founded The Spectator magazine.Matthew Prior (1664-1721) was an English poet and diplomat who contributed to The Examiner. In full calf bindings, with the spine labels stating 'PRIOR'S POEMS' for both volumes. Cracking to the head of the rear joint of Volume I. Front joint to Volume II is cracked, and the front hinge is strained, but held firmly by cords. Small loss of leather to the head of the spine to both volumes. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for offsetting to the first and last couple of pages. Very Good. book.
