Just a delightful collection of stories that will charm and the child, as well as many hurdles. This is a sequel to JOHN AND WENDY AND THINGS (1946), both examples of juvenile natural history. Hogben also wrote ANCIENT AND MODERN MARVELS (1945) and also a book on navigation, all geared toward children. I was unable to find biographical information on the author. Gilbert Rumbold was a prolific illustrator in the 1930s, especially known for his Art Deco inspired illustrations. He created beautiful fashion illustrations, decorative maps and - those 1930s obsessions - motor cars, ships and airplanes. It is, however, the Savoy Cocktail book for which he is most well known.
