Hardcover. Zustand: Very good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very good. Patrick Siebert (Cover photo), Steve Kwak (Author (illustrator). First Printing [Stated]. [10], 326 pages. Illustrations (some in color). About the Author. Index. A Larry Hogan signed An American United bookplate on the fep [possibly plate signed]. Lawrence Joseph Hogan Jr. (born May 25, 1956) is an American politician and businessman serving as the 62nd governor of Maryland since 2015. A moderate member of the Republican Party, he was secretary of appointments under Maryland governor Bob Ehrlich from 2003 to 2007. Hogan chaired the National Governors Association from 2019 to 2020. Hogan founded the Change Maryland organization in 2011, which he used to promote his 2014 gubernatorial campaign. Hogan said he had no interest in running for the U.S. Senate in 2022, but left open the possibility of running for president in 2024. He also launched An America United, a national advocacy group that is also intended to raise Hogan's profile and give him a voice on the national level. In October 2019, Hogan announced his support for the U.S. House of Representatives' impeachment inquiry against Trump. In February 2020, after Trump was impeached and acquitted by the Senate, Hogan criticized Congress, saying that House Democrats "had already decided before the hearings that the president should be impeached" and that Senate Republicans were going to acquit Trump "no matter what the facts were". Still Standing reveals how an unlikely governor is sparking a whole new kind of politicsâ"and introduces the exciting possibilities that lie ahead. As the rookie Republican governor of deep-blue Maryland, Larry Hogan had already beaten some daunting odds. A common-sense businessman with a down-to-earth style, he had won a long-shot election the Washington Post called "a stunning upset." He'd worked with cops and neighborhood leaders to quell Baltimore's worst rioting in 47 years. He'd stared down entrenched political bosses to save his state from fiscal catastrophe, winning praise from Democrats, Republicans and independents. But none of that prepared him for the life-threatening challenge he would have to face next: a highly aggressive form of late-stage cancer. Could America's most popular governor beat the odds again? The people of Maryland, with their "Hogan Strong" wristbands, were certainly pulling for him, sending him back to the governor's office in a landslide. As Governor Hogan began his second term cancer-free, his next challenge went far beyond Maryland: bringing our divided country together for a better future. In his own words and unique, plain-spoken style, Larry Hogan tells the feel-good story of a fresh American leader being touted as the "anti-Trump Republican." A lifelong uniter at a time of sharp divisions. A politician with practical solutions that take the best from all sides. An open-hearted man who has learned important lessons from his own struggles in life. With his sunny disposition, his multiracial family, and his open-minded approach to problem-solving, Hogan has some bold and surprising answers for today's bleak politics. Still Standing is a timely reminder that perseverance in the face of unexpected obstacles is at the heart of the American spirit.

Zustand: Fine. First Edition. Full run of all seven STELLAR SCIENCE FICTION SHORT STORIES, including original pieces by James Tiptree, Jr., Larry Niven, Isaac Asimov, Larry Niven, Anne McCaffrey, and more. Judy-Lynn del Rey was a legend of the the science fiction world of the 1970s and 1980s, editing sf magazines like GALAXY before taking up the position where she would ultimately have the most impact, at Ballantine Books. Del Rey began as a Ballantine editor, then "winding up running the enterprise" (Frederick Pohl): over the course of the years that STELLAR was published, she became the VP of Ballantine Books, as well as Editor-in-Chief of Del Rey Books, the SF/F imprint at Ballantine established in 1977. Del Rey had a formative impact on what would become known as space opera - most dramatically, by nabbing the book rights to the novelization of an upcoming film, STAR WARS. Alan Dean Foster, author of that novelization, contributed a story to STELLAR's first issue. Other major contributors to these volumes include Clifford Simak, Robert Silverberg, Ben Bova, and Hal Clement. A bird's-eye view of the best of science fiction short stories of the era from one of its most important editors. 7 volumes, 7'' x 4.25'' each. Original color pictorial wrappers. Ranging 186-248 pages. A few tiny nicks to edges, faint spot to STELLAR #2 fore-edge, else bright and clean.
