William S R Hodson (1821-1858) led an irregular light cavalry regiment of 2,000 during the Indian Rebellion of 1857 during which he captured the Mughul king of Delhi. xvi, 384pp. Fully leather bound. The boards are red calf, the spine brown calf with five raised bands and gilt lettering and decoration. The book has been rebacked. Spine has been rubbed and sunned. Marble to all page edges. Marbled endpapers, probably renewed. Junior United Services Club bookplate to front pastedown. Split to hinge between first and second free endpaper, however boards and text-block are fully attached and in good order.
