In den WarenkorbFirst and only edition, scarce, just a single copy traced, at the University of Minnesota. The journal was compiled at the time from Hind's sprightly letters home by his sister Amelia and was lost for some years before rediscovery in 1914, this edition evidently produced in small numbers for family and friends. "Our father was o…nly a young man of nineteen years of age when he went to join his Regiment in India, and therefore his letters were naturally written in a homely and boyish manner; but we think that on this account they will be none the less acceptable " (Preface). Hind saw action at Mudki and Ferozeshah, and gives brief accounts of these engagements, together with much detail on conditions on campaign in the Punjab. He subsequently served with the Turkish Contingent in the Crimean War, and the 26 BNLI having mutinied was attached to the Gurkhas with Campbell's Column in the final relief of Lucknow. After the Mutiny he was posted to the 104th Bengal Fusiliers, later Munster Fusiliers. Octavo. pp. 107. Original moderate reddish orange flecked cloth, title gilt to the front cover. Lightly rubbed, spine sunned and slightly frayed head and tail, a couple of faint damp spots, some colour transfer to the front pastedown; title page browned, pale toning to the text-block, binding cracked before last gathering, but sound; very good.
