"In Dr. Hill we recognize a pioneer in the study of human reproduction who has taken an active part in the unfolding of that elegant and complex mystery for 44 years. He was the first worker in the United States to use parabiotic animals as an experimental tool. With Dr. Sir Alan Sterling Parkes (1900-1990) he opened a new field of investigation with a report in 1934 of hypophysectomy in birds and a detailed study of its consequences. In 1937, long before the role of testosterone as a precursor of estrogen was dreamed of, Dr. Hill produced convincing evidence that the ovaries of mice, in certain circumstances, produce male hormones."
