In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: Good Only. First edition. The first edition of two issues of Irish literary publication 'The Arrow', including the very scarce first edition of the third issue, featuring Yeats's defence of Synge's 'Playboy'. Two issues of this intermittently published early 20th century periodical, published by the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, which was edited by W. B. Yeats. The first of these is the third published issue of this periodical, dated February 23rd, 1907. This issue is most noteworthy for carrying an article by Yeats offering his defense of the staging of Synge's 'Playboy of the Western World' at The Abbey. Loosely inserted is a single folding sheet referring to upcomming performances at the Abbey. The second issue is a 1939 number revived it specifically to commemorate Yeats's lived, published within months of his death. Its contributors - including John Masefield, Austin Clarke, F. R. Higgins, Gordon Bottomley, Edmund Dulac, William Rothenstein and Oliver St John Gogarty - consider Yeats variously as poet, artist, nationalist and man of the theatre. Illustrated with two leaves of illustrations, featuring images from J. B. Yeats, Charles Shannon, Sean O'Sullivan and Edmund Dulac. Collated, complete. With advertisements to first and last few leaves. Bookplate of Milton McC Gatch to the front wrap reverse.
