Light brown hand-laid paper-covered boards with maroon spine. decorative gilt-on-black vignette to front board, triple ruled in gilt, and gilt lettering to spine. 34 pp. text, and two full pages with actual samples of fabrics - woolens and worsteds. Wonderful drop caps depicting phases of the cloth-production process. Apart from a few light smudges and several lightly nudged lower corners, the book is in very good condition. (A smallcut out enhanced photograph of four types of yarn typically used in men's suits, is tipped-in, albeit upside down, at the end of the chapter on Yarn. In 1899 Jeremiah Hickey, a bookkeeper for a men's clothing manufacturer in Rochester, New York, joined forces with his friend Jacob Freeman and together with a few investors, launched their Hickey-Freeman brand. In 1908 they made a decision only to manufacture high-quality men's clothing. By the 1920's, the manufacturing facility employed over 1700 workers. The plant expanded several times and in the mid 2000s was purchased and repurchased several times. During the Coronavirus pandemic, Hickey-Freeman shifted its focus to manufacturing masks and other protective equipment for the medical profession.
