Signed limited edition of the companion book to Yuichi Hibi's 2001 documentary on the life and work of Robert Frank. Small octavo, original boards, containing five reproductions of black and white photographs and one original print. One of 500 numbered copies signed on the verso of the original print by Yuichi Hibi, this is number 240. In fine condition. In 1988, Japanese actor Yuichi Hibi moved to New York City, knowing very little English. As an import he found himself to be a natural outsider to the culture he was trying to become a part of. He began making photographs and within that work he evoked a sense of longing and isolation and understanding of things that often are overlooked. In 2001, he directed a documentary on photographer Robert Frank, "A Weekend with Mr. Frank", this being the companion book released as part of the Nazraeli Press's One Picture Book series.

Hardcover. Zustand: New. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing. Limited edition of 500 hand-numbered copies, with one hinged original gelatin silver print (4 x 4 inches) tipped in the final page and signed on verso by Hibi. Hardcover. Paper-covered boards, no dust jacket as issued. Photographs by Yuichi Hibi. 16 pp., with 5 duotone plates. 7-1/2 x 5-3/4 inches. New. The 35th publication in the Nazraeli Press One Picture Book series. From the publisher: "A Weekend with Mr. Frank comprises 6 photographs of Robert Frank at work and play in front of the camera, made by Yuichi Hibi during a visit to the reclusive artist's home in Novia Scotia. Hibi's first book, Imprint, established him as one of the great new photographic talents to come from Japan. Shortly after moving to the United States out of Japan, Hibi met, and was quickly befriended by, the subject of this out-of-nowhere book. His contribution to our One Picture Book series is an important addition both to the series itself, and to the literature available on the legendary Robert Frank." Signed by Author.

Hardcover. Zustand: Gut bis sehr gut. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Leichtere Gebrauchsspuren. Limitierte Ausgabe. Mö : Large hardcover: 34 x 40cm. Signed twice. Neco is printed in an oversized format on lush Japanese uncoated paper. This first edition is limited to 500 numbered and signed copies: 326 of 500 copies. - Born in Nagoya, Japan in 1964, Yuichi Hibi trained as an actor and filmmaker, achieving success in a broad range of film and theater productions before moving to New York in 1988. It was at this time that he began to make photographs. Speaking virtually no English, Hibi was the quintessential outsider. His quietly intense images evoke a sense of longing and isolation, yet they also find beauty and order and meaning in overlooked places and things. Hibi's first monograph, Imprint, was published by Nazraeli Press in 2005 to wide critical acclaim. We are pleased to announce the artist's follow-up monograph, Neco (Cat). Spanning several years, the rich, grainy photographs of cats at rest, play, and on the hunt spill off the pages in this beautifully-produced artist s book. Rather than simply documenting the activities of cats he has come across over the years, Hibi has managed to capture the very essence of being feline. Signatur des Verfassers.

Photographs and text by Yuichi Hibi. Includes a list of plates, and a 14-page folded printed sheet laid in, with a facsimile of a handwritten note dated 1988 from Hibi to a friend in Japan. Unpaginated, with 79 duotone plates, beautifully printed full-bleed by Toppan Printing Company, Ltd., Japan. 11-1/8 x 8-1/2 inches. This first printing was limited to 1000 hardbound copies, and 25 limited editions with print. New in publisher's original packaging (book, print, and clamshell box all in flawless, pristine condition). From the publisher: "'I went back to Japan after seven years of absence, from north to south I traveled the country through the lens: images distorted, images real, only imprints remain today. . . years ago and years ahead perhaps, this Japan travels inside me like a long bamboo path.' Raw talent rarely express itself so forcefully as it does in Yuichi Hibi's first book of photographs, Imprint. Born in Nagoya in 1964, Hibi has lived in New York since 1988. Trained as an actor and filmmaker, he began making still photographs shortly after his arrival in the United States. He found himself as much at home, and as much a stranger, in his new surroundings as he had in his old. Imprint opens with a facsimile of a handwritten note dated 1988, written to a friend in Japan, which serves as an introduction to the pictures that follow. The plate section itself is divided into two sections -- one of New York and one of Japan -- and the viewer follows Hibi through the nights and loneliness of both. Signed by Author.
