In den WarenkorbOblong 4to. I folding double hemisphere map of the work, old closed tear, repaired; 10 other maps, the Europe one with ink identification in a contemporary hand. No outer wrappers. Nathanial Rogers Hewitt [1783 - 1841] was a British engraver who produced maps for a cartographers including James Wyld and Samuel Fores. This appear…s to be a series of maps published for children, since the publisher is Grant and Griffith, successors to J. Harris, although we have been unable to positively identify the publication, and no other copies have been traced. The maps are sequentially lettered A - I [plus the double hemisphere world map], and each one has numbers and letters; presumably a key was also issued. William Butler's teaching book was first published by Harris, a 10th edition appearing in 1818. Subsequently an edition, was issued by Harris's successor Grant and Griffith in 1848. An early atlas specifically for female education. When originally issued, teaching for girls would have been relatively unusual in the sciences, although more common by the time this later edition was published.

In den WarenkorbLithograph. Zustand: Near fine. Hand Colored Lithograph. Hand colored lithograph, in wood frame, white matte. Full piece measures 20" x 17". Paper backing, not examined outside frame. (Gale Research, 6594) Full text reads: "To the Memory of Wm. H. Harrison / Born February 9th 1773 / Inaugurated President of the United States Mar…ch 4th, 1841 / Died April 4th 1841 / AE 68" President William Henry Harrison, the ninth President of the United States, died on April 4, 1841, just a month after assuming office. His death was caused by pneumonia, which he is believed to have contracted shortly after delivering his lengthy inaugural address in inclement weather. Harrison's demise at the age of 68 made him the first U.S. president to die in office, and his presidency the shortest in American history. His death precipitated a brief constitutional crisis concerning presidential succession, as it was the first time a sitting president had died. Vice President John Tyler eventually assumed the presidency, setting a precedent for succession. Memorial to President William Henry Harrison by William K. Hewitt, published by Nathaniel Currier of New York circa 1841. (illustrator).
