In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Looking Back, or, Personal Reminiscences by the Widow of a New Zealand Pioneer Settler By Ellen Anne Hewett (Mrs. Duff Hewett). Published by Campfield Press, St. Albans, 1911. True First Edition. BAGNALL H762. Hardback, published in original hardback boards with a cloth spine (no dust jacket as issued by Campfield Press in 1911). An incredibly scarce and highly important primary source document of early colonial life in New Zealand. Ellen Hewett provides a gripping, first-hand account of setting sail for NZ in 1858, establishing a rugged bush farm at Kai Iwi (Whanganui district), and enduring the frontier conflicts of the New Zealand Wars—culminating in the tragic raid on her family property. While later New Zealand reprints are occasionally found, this is the coveted 1911 original first printing issued in England by the Campfield Press before the author returned to active evangelical and temperance work in NZ. Condition Binding firm Cover: Displays moderate to heavy foxing/age-spotting to the cloth surface and some mild rubbing, bumping, marks, fading and shelf-wear, which is very common for this specific edition's exterior finish. Pages show natural age-tanning, light foxing concentrated around the outer page edges. Inscription on the front end-paper. 4 b&w plates present and in good order. Overall: A very good, complete, and completely original copy of a foundational piece of Whanganui pioneer social history. ALL PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK. All books are sent with free courier postage within New Zealand.…
