About The Author: Hetukar Jha (b.1944, Madhubani, Bihar) joined Patna University as a lecturer on sociology in 1968 and was professor and head of the Department of Sociology at the time of retirement (in 2004). In 1972, he was awarded Fulbright Scholarship. Since 1968, he has been working on villages, traditions, culture and education from historical perspective and has published more than 120 research papers and 19 books. He has participated in seminars / conferences both in India and abroad and has also served the U.G.C. and I.C.S.S.R. as a member of their different committees. He is presently working on village world in the colonial era and the genealogical records of Mi t hi l a (Bihar). Besides, he is engaged in bringing to light the lost/ forgotten records and books of past centuries concerning Bihar in Kameshwar Singh Bihar Heritage Series.
