Die Herbin-Schau im April 1965 fällt damit in seine Anfangsjahre als Händler klassischer Moderne/geometrischer Abstraktion - nur zwei Monate bevor er im Juni/Juli 1965 mit Warhol, Lichtenstein, Oldenburg, Rauschenberg, Wesselmann und Rosenquist seine erste Pop-Art-Ausstellung zeigte und sich damit komplett neu positionierte. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Auguste Herbin, issu d'une famille d'ouvriers tisseurs, naît le 29 avril 1882 dans un petit village près de la frontière belge. En conséquence, la peinture de ce Français du Nord de la France se distingue également par son caractère artisanal. A partir de 1900, l'artiste étudie à l'école des Beaux-Arts de Lille avant de s'installer à Paris où il rejoint tout d'abord les impressionnistes puis les Fauves. Auguste Herbin, voisin d'atelier de Braque et de Picasso, étudie également le cubisme dont l'influence l'incite à créer ses premières toiles cubistes dès 1913. Ses travaux aboutissent à une phase géométrique non-figurative à partir de 1917, cette dernière évoluant de manière croissante vers le constructivisme à l'exception d'une interruption en 1922 alors que le peintre revient brièvement à une manière de peindre figurative. En 1929, Auguste Herbin devient co-fondateur du salon des Surindépendants et initie deux ans plus tard l'association d'artistes Abstraction-Création avec l'aide de Vantongerloo, entre autres. Auguste Herbin devient président du salon des Réalités Nouvelles à partir de 1955. L'étude du Trecento italien incite Herbin à se consacrer à la peinture concrète composée de formes géométriques simples avec des aplats de couleurs pures dès 1938. L'artiste conçoit en 1946 l'alphabet plastique, un système de composition reposant sur la structure des lettres et qui constitue le fondement de l'organisation de ses toiles. Dans son ouvrage L'art non figuratif non objectif, paru en 1949, Herbin présente cet aspect ainsi que ses théories des couleurs inspirées en partie par la théorie des couleurs de Goethe. …

[2], vii, 254 pp., [1 errata], engraved frontispiece constituting an additional title in Arabic, 16 folding letterpress tables, 10 plates, of which 3 are in colour and 4 folding, modern half cloth with marbled boards, gilt stamped spine title, occasional insignificant brown staining, a wide margin paper untrimmed. The only edition of Herbin's Arabic grammar, which provides information about syntax and elocution, and which includes the fables of Luqman, and excerpts from Abu al-Fida's works in Arabic with Latin translations. Also included is Herbin's 'Essay on Oriental Calligraphy', a fine early account of Islamic calligraphy. Auguste Herbin was a distinguished French Orientalist. He was one of the first students at the School of Oriental Languages in Paris. Herbin intended to publish French-Arabic and Arabic-French dictionaries, but never completed the project before his untimely death. This is his best and well-known work, which he wrote at the age of sixteen. He left another work as a manuscript at the Bibliothéque Nationale, which is entitled Dictionnaire Arabe-Français; Essay sur les Synomimes et les Homonymes Arabes.
