A fine original colour lithograph from Vanity Fair, a magazine which was published from 1869-1914, featuring a large caricature portrait each week. These were drawn by various artists, the most famous of whom was Leslie Ward who used the 'nom de crayon' of "Spy". This portrait will come mounted/matted and ready to frame using archivist quality materials, mount size 18 x 12 inches, 47 x 31 cms. It will be presented in a cellophane wrapper with our label guaranteeing authenticity. We pack very well, between sheets of hardboard. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a portrait of William Drogo Montagu, Duke of Manchester, Earl of Manchester, Viscount Mandeville, and Baron Sir Michael Henry Herbert, with the caption "Washington". Sir Michael Henry Herbert, KCMG, CB, PC) (25 June 1857-30 Sept 1903), was a British diplomat and ambassador.

The recipient is not named, but the letter has at its head the date stamp of the Royal Society of Arts, London, and is docketed by Wood. Signed 'H. Brereton Baker'. He agrees to give 'the three Cantor lectures as you suggest, provided they can begin after the 3rd. week in February'. He gives the subject as 'Catalysis in its scientific and industrial aspects'. A pencil note at the foot gives dates for the lectures as 'Mch 16, 23, 30'.

Herbert Alexander St. John-Mildmay was born on 20 July 1836.1 He was the son of Captain George William St. John-Mildmay and Mary Baillie. He married Susan Margaret Stackpole Motley, daughter of the American writere and diplomat the Hon. John Lothrop Motley (1814 -1877) , on 7 May 1884.1 He died on 21 October 1922 at age 86. He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Rifle Brigade. He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.).
