Presents the story of the Salvation Army in America from its founding until his publication in 1955. Like Wisbey's other works, the greatest strength of "Soldiers Without Swords" is its narrative style, which is exceptionally readable for an academic history written in the mid-1950s.

I had no idea that Mark Twain used to spend his summers near Elmira, New York at his Quarry Farm residence, nor did I know that he is actually buried there. Please find a book about those days after the Civil War to the turn of the Century. I have included a photo of the first page of the Introduction for your information and to set the stage for an understanding of the book on offer here. Please find: Mark Twain in Elmira, edited by Robert D. Jerome and Herbert A. Wisbey, Jr. This small hard cover book (6 ¼ x 9 ¼ inches, 242 pages) was published by the Mark Twain Society of Elmira, New York, dated 1977, and the Third Printing (so stated). The book is bound in red buckram with silver gilt titles on cover and spine. The book is well illustrated, with b&w photos throughout; my count on the List includes the Frontispiece and about 40 + pages more. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are clean and bright and really unbumped and with still bright silver gilt titles. Inside the hard covers, someone has pasted-in a theatre ticket to a performance of Mark Twain Musical Drama, held in Horseheads, New York in September of 1991. They have also left their inked name on the same front endpaper. Otherwise, the book inside is untouched and unmarked and the pages and plates are clean and bright throughout. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.

When suffering from a severe illness and in a fever, she declared she had died and was sent from heaven, reincarnated as a prophet known as the Public Universal Friend, who was neither male nor female. She called herself the Universal Friend and preached the Ten Commandments and sexual abstinence to followers forming what they called the "Society of Universal Friends." Unconventional and radical, Wilkinson is regarded as one of the first transgender religious voices in Western culture. Herbert A.
