Details of a controversy about (mainly) Wren's City Churches which due to population displacement had very samll congregations and were seen by some as a waste of money. The book reprints argumentative letters mainly from Peek and Trower but also from pseuonymous correspodents Philatethes, Veritas, Zeta etc., and from rectors. Neat inscription on front endpaper 'Thou shalt not remove the ancient landmarks.' Original publisher's textures brown cloth lettered gilt on front cover . Very good indeed.…
