Copyright page dated 1853. 346 pages. In fair condition. Quite a bit of speckled staining to spine; a few light colored stains on covers. Corners bumped. Previous owner's name written on front attached endpaper. Pages are foxed throughout, but text remains in good reading condition overall. Black and white frontispiece portrait of Philip Henry. Binding is cracked in one or two spots, but covers remain attached and no missing/detached signatures. Henry is well known as a diarist, and not only was a witness to Charles I's execution, but was a playmate of Princes Charles and James as a child. This book follows his life from birth, to the sermon preached by his son after Henry's death.

Both front boards are starting to crack volume 1 about 3 inches at top and bottom volume 2 about 3 inches at bottom. Boards still holding well but front endpapers are cracked but no markings. Volume 1 goes to page 900. Volume 2 has page 901 to 1144 end of old Testament,168 pages of the Apocrypha and 460 pages of the new testament. There is a large number of steel engravings that are not part of the page numbers. Some engravings have foxing due to the tissue guards. Most text pages in fine condition. No stains or water marks. All edges gilt. Circa 1850's A very nice looking set. Will need extra postage.
