Nach einem kurzen Gastspiel in Hollywood wieder nach Frankreich zurückkehrend, begann sich seine Karriere dem Ende zuzuneigen, wozu eine gewisse Abhängigkeit von Kokain und ein kostspieliger Lebenswandel samt ebensolcher Scheidungen das ihrige beitrugen. Ein nach einer anscheinend erfolgreich verlaufenen Entziehungskur unternommener Versuch Ende der 40er Jahre, wieder an die alten Erfolge anzuknüpfen schlug fehl, da niemand mehr an dem jugendlichen Liebhaber der 30er Jahre interessiert war.…
