Cloth. Zustand: Good. A smart copy of this very successful work on domestic cookery by Maria Rundell. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Ink inscriptions to the front free end paper. Frontispiece depicting "domestic cookery" and a further 9 plates. Collated complete. Maria Rundell (1745-1828) was an English writer. In 1805, she sent an unedited collection of recipes and household advice to John Murray, of whose family she was a friend. This is the 64th edition of Rundell's book. Her work was a huge success; around half a million copies were sold in Rundell's lifetime. The book was aimed at middle-class housewives. It offers advice on economical food preparation, medical remedies, and how to set up a home brewery, and includes a section entitled "Directions to Servants". The book contains an early recipe for tomato sauce and the first recipe in print for Scotch eggs. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally sound, with some wear and a couple of stains to the boards and spine, including losses of cloth to the extremities and the joints. The cloth is lifting to the tail of the spine. Both hinges are tender but still reasonably firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, except for the odd spot to the first and last few pages and the plates. The sixty-fourth edition, extensively remodelled and enlarged by Emma Roberts through the addition of nearly one thousand new receipts. Containing recipes and household guidance with advice concerning servants and the management of the home. Roberts"s revisions also introduced a notable range of Anglo-Indian dishes, including numerous curries, curry powders and mulligatawny soups. Maria Rundell (1745-1828) was an English domestic writer who compiled her recipes and household advice for her daughters before presenting the manuscript to her friend, the publisher John Murray. First published in 1805-06, this work quickly became the dominant British cookery book of the early 19th century and remained in print for decades. Spectacular miniature Almanac from the year 1830 providing all sorts of useful information such as: common notes for 1830; a 12-month calendar; a table of Kings and Queens' reigns; a table of Lord Mayors and Sheriffs from the year 1809 to the year 1830; a list of holidays; a table of the current coins; and a list of eclipses for 1830. Almanacs were very popular and often given as presents in varying forms to suit every pocket. 1st Edition. 8vo, 21cm, The First Edition, 12p., plus folding view, page 12 chipped half way across at the top margin with 6 lines affected, disbound, otherwise very good to fine, the folding plate is fine, disbound, rare. Rare polar-themed ephemera relating to Barker's panorama in Leicester Square. This was a popular attraction, visited even by John Keats who was left tongue-tied. He wrote to his brother the month of its opening, "I have been very much pleased with the Panorama of the ships at the North Pole with the icebergs, the Mountains, the Bears, the Walrus the seals the Penguins and a large whale floating back above the water it is impossible to describe the place" (Letters 1814-1821, p. 95). The illustration in question was a double-decker panorama which was the first floor. On the second floor was the view of Petersburg depicted in the accompanying print. These plate illustrations could be purchased separately from the guide. There was another issue of the guide in 1820. …
