Perls,(1910-1975), after having worked at their mother's Galerie Kate Perls in Paris. Following his marriage to Amelia Blumenthal of Philadelphia in 1940 , Klaus and Amelia B. Perls jointly ran the gallery. They specialized in modern French painting while Franz established the Frank Perls Gallery in Beverly Hills. He originally dealt in works by Maurice Utrillo, Maurice de Vlaminck and Raoul Dufy that his mother sent from Paris, until the Nazi occupation. When she was forced to flee France, he began dealing in now little known contemporary American artists, including Darrel Austin, and in Mexican and South American art such as Mario Carreno. After the war, Klaus again dealt in French art from the School of Paris.Artists in the Perls' stable included Rouault, Picasso, Léger, Derain, Dufy, Matisse, Modigliani, Pascin, Soutine and Vlaminck. The Perls Galleries closed in 1997.

In den WarenkorbLeather. Zustand: Very Good. None (illustrator). Two volumes of Henri Klee's look at the history of Christian dogmas, translated here into French from the original German by P. H. Mabire. Complete in two volumes. These volumes are in French. This work is an interesting look at the history of Christian principles, and the dogmas of faith. Christianity has a set of core beliefs that are shared by virtually all Christians. The author taught dogmatic and moral theology at the University of Bonn, and so this work is instructional and educational. Originally written in German by Henri Klee. Klee was a German theologian and Biblical interpreter. He also published works on Catholic dogmas, as well as 'Die Beicht', 'Commentar Uber den Romerbrief', and 'Enclcylopadie des Theologie'. Translated here into French by the Abbe PH Mabire. Bookplate to the front pastedowns belonging to a John Ponsonby. Rebacked with the original half calf with marbled paper boards laid on. Externally, smart. Very light marking to the spines. Evidence of where the joints and extremities had been worn before being rebacked. Bookplates to the front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with scattered spots. Very Good. book.

Paperback. Zustand: FINE. First Edition. Complete run of the first four issues of Teriade's legendary art magazine. Beginning with a stunning cover produced by Matisse for the first issue, Verve would incorporate fresh artwork into its cover designed, newly commissioned by artists such as Miro, Picasso, Chagall, and other leading lights of the French art world. Each issue offered spectacular color lithographs printed by the Paris lithographers, Mourlot. Early issues came in litho-printed card wrappers in boxes, later volumes would be in paper-over board with litho covers. This choce allowed Teriade to feature the fresh lithographic artwork in the cover design, but left the books themselves extremely fragile and succeptible to wear. Additionally, the full-page lithographs have been continuous targets for art dealers looking to excise the plates. So condition seen here is quite rare, with each volume preserved COMPLETE + FINE with no signs of the wear and toning so commonly seen. 'The cover of Verve No. 1 is by Henri Matisse; it consists of three unmodulated colors--red, blue, and black--that the master cut directly from printers' ink specimen books. . Mattisse's cover for the first issue, lithographed by Fernand Mourlot printers, was an original work of art created expressly for the magazine--as would be practically all of the Verve's covers. . The painter took great pains to make sure that the cover would turn out exactly as he wished. . THe care Matisse lavished on what others might consider a minor undertaking was one of the hallmarks of Teriade's publications. How did he induce the greatest artists of this century to give the very best of themelves? . Matisse and Teriade shared a common ideal. For both of them, painting was life itself.' (Michel Antonioz, VERVE: The Ultimate Review of Art and Literature, 35-36).
