Zustand: Good. 9.75 x 7.75 in., Hardbound, 46 pages, 38 color illustrations. New condition.Nothing and Everything, is a hardcover catalog that accompanies an exhibition of thirty-eight drawings, paintings, photographs, and sculpture spanning eleven decades. The book and exhibition includes works by Carl Andre, Vija Celmins, Jean Dubuffet, Walker Evans, Robert Gober, Peter Hujar, Donald Judd, Ellsworth Kelly, Helen Levitt, Piero Manzoni, Agnes Martin, Robert Rauschenberg, and Hiroshi Sugimoto, among others.Nothing and Everything, investigates one of art's oldest mysteries: how an artwork may simultaneously contain elements of emptiness and fullness, void and profusion. These qualities may appear contradictory but they do not have to be so. Several works, including Peter Hujar's 1975 photograph of the Hudson River and Ellsworth Kelly's drawing Light Reflecting on Water (1950), explore connections between the banal and the sublime, particularly in nature. Diane Arbus's photograph Clouds on-screen at a drive-in movie, N.J. (1960), for example, blurs the line between the mundane and the transcendent with its image of a billowing cloud on the movie screen against the evening sky. More than a statement of modern man's distance from nature, the photograph captures a moment of the sublime bounded by the everyday.Nothing and Everything was organized in collaboration with Peter Freeman, Inc., New York.…

In den WarenkorbZustand: Wie neu. Hatje Cantz, Ostfildern, 2008. First edition, first printing. Mint, new, unread; orginally shrink-wrapped in publisher`s plastic foil. Editor: Inka Schube. Text: Walker Evans. Hardcover in linen with original dustjacket. 324 x 315 mm. 168 pages, 142 photos (70 in colour).) Text: german. Perfect condition! Collector`s copy! Helen Levitt (born 1913), one of the most prominent female photographers in America, is one of the pioneers of street photography. Animated by Walker Evans and influenced by Henri Cartier-Bresson and his philosophy of the Decisive Moment she started in the 1930s to develop a distinctive style, coined by Evans as "anti-journalism". The streets of the poorer New York districts were transformed to stages of everyday life by the lens of Levitt`s camera. Although the images of playing kids or grown-ups in conversation seem to derive their beauty from coincidental situations, they were all precisely composed and choreographed by the streets beyond Times Square and Fifth Avenue. The photographer herself presents her most iconic works in this volume, supplemented by formerly unpublished colour photographs. More than 100 of her legendary works shot in New York are united with pictures taken in Mexico and a dedication by Walker Evans to pay hommage to the american artist and her career that spans over more than seventy years. ***************Hatje Cantz, Ostfildern, 2008. Deutsche Erstausgabe.
