Soft cover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. Good condition. Wear to book corners and edges. Pages are sunned. The story of the Bush Church Aid Society of the Anglican Church and the Flying Medical Service at Ceduna, highlighting the resourcefulness of the missionaries and bush nurses who travelled vast distances to provide services…in station homes, shearing sheds and tiny outback schools. The society has cared for the spiritual, medical and social needs of people in the remote parts of Australia for over 60 years. Starting in 1921, a missionary was sent to serve the vast area of the far west of South Australia. This later led to the establishment of the Flying Medical School, based in Ceduna, which provided protection and service unequalled in Australia. Many men and women have often served in lonely places for up to 20 and 30 years. To many lonely pioneers, the initials BCA spell security, hope and encouragement, yet this unique work is not widely known. Includes illustrations, maps, and photographs that capture the faces and landscapes of the outback during that era.
