A complete set of thirty-two instructional cards by British artist and designer Helen M. Angus, intended to provide practical guidance for making a variety of toys. The set comprises 31 colour-illustrated plates, together with a further card entitled "These notes may help you", containing general instructions and advice. The cards combine attractive period illustration with practical toy-making directions and provide an appealing example of mid-twentieth-century British educational and craft publishing. Issued by Oxford University Press, without a printed date but circa 1938. The cards are housed in the original paper sleeve with blue lettering. Collation: 32 cards in total: 31 colour plates plus 1 instructional notes card. Format: 4to. Publisher: Oxford University Press Date: n.d. [c. 1940] Condition Good overall, with the cards themselves generally Very Good. Complete set of 32 cards, comprising 31 colour-illustrated toy-making cards together with the introductory card headed These Notes May Help You, housed in the original printed paper sleeve. The cards are generally clean and well preserved, with bright colour illustrations and only light age-related handling and toning. The original sleeve is considerably more worn, with overall age-toning, marks, creasing, rubbing, fraying and small tears and losses around the edges and corners, as clearly shown in the photographs. Despite this wear, the sleeve remains substantially intact and the blue printed title, author, contents, original 3/- net price and Oxford University Press imprint remain clearly legible. An attractive and scarce survival, particularly desirable with the original sleeve retained.…

Undated, published by the Oxford University Press, possibly 1930s or 40s, this is a very scarce collection of thirty two printed cards with instructions for making a variety of Children's toys from everyday household items, the cards measure 8.5 inches by 6 inches approx., printed in colour, housed in the original printed paper envelope priced at three shillings, the toys include a puppet theatre, a matchbox fort, a matchbox horse, a caravan, toy fort, a model market, a steam engine, a matchbox table, a matchbox wheelbarrow, a model village, a windmill, a matchstick doll, matchbox dresser, matchbox ship, matchbox chair, a toy bus, a doll's suitcase, a railway carriage, a matchbox wagon, a matchbox cinema, a racing car, a matchbox racing car, an acrobat, cork furniture, a golliwog, a matchbox van, Noah and his Animals, Acorn people and animals, a twig doll, a model Viking ship, Noah's Ark etc. all thirty two cards are present including one instruction card, some handling marks to the cards, the envelope is noticeably worn with surface wear, small tears and partial loss to closure flap, old ownership name to top else in good general condition, extremely scarce, only one set found in an institutional library collection and that is the set located in the Royal Danish library.…

"One of the most underrated and overlooked artworks of the last twenty years", Other Men's Flowers is a collection of text-based prints by fifteen leading British artists, curated by Joshua Compston. Each print is either screen-printed or letterpress, and printed by Thomas Shaw and Simon Redington. The title is taken from Michel de Montaigne's writing: "I have gathered about me a posy of other men's flowers and nothing but the thread that binds them is my own." Compston binds these 15 prints together in what is a landmark publication for 20th-century British printmaking. Paragon catalogue, Vol. I, p. 198.
